Research visit focuses on biodegradability in water and seawater

Andreas Nirvald Andreas Nirvald, Marketing & Communications Manager

This week we welcomed Ke Gong, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Technological University of the Shannon, for two days of biodegradability testing in our laboratory in Lund, Sweden.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate selected biobased materials in aqueous media and seawater according to ISO 14851 and ISO 18830. Using BPC® Blue respirometer system coupled with BPC® Air incubator, Ke worked alongside our team to review the protocols, refine the methodology, prepare samples and carry out two laboratory experiments. The testing was led by our technical experts Gangjin Liu, PhD and Elton Melo, PhD.

The practical work provided an opportunity to apply the standards to Ke’s materials and exchange knowledge about experimental design, sample preparation and method optimisation.

Ke is part of a research laboratory specialising in polymer science and the development of biodegradable materials. The project is supported by an extensive network of international research partners and collaborators.

Thank you, Ke, for two productive days in our laboratory!
