BPC at the Cellulose Fibres Conference 2025

Event Season in full swing! Last week, Elton Melo and Céline Hedemo represented BPC at the Cellulose Fibres Conference 2025 in Cologne, Germany. Organised by the nova-Institute, the event brought together researchers, industry professionals, and innovators to discuss the latest developments in sustainable fibres and textiles.

This year’s focus was on biosynthetic fibres, fibre-to-fibre recycling, and biodegradability—topics that are becoming more important as the demand for sustainable materials grows. There’s a clear shift towards solutions that reduce waste, improve recyclability, and address microplastic pollution.

Biodegradability is playing a bigger role in material development, and we had many good conversations about how BPC’s respirometric instruments can support testing and analysis in this field. It was also a great chance to hear from companies and researchers about the challenges they face, from recycling mixed-fibre textiles to developing new biodegradable alternatives.

A big thank you to nova-Institute for organising the event and to everyone we had the chance to meet. We’re looking forward to continuing these conversations and seeing how the industry moves forward.
