Improving BOD analysis: Join us at ECOSTP 2025 in Stockholm

From 23 to 26 June, BPC Instruments will take part in ECOSTP 2025, the 7th International Conference on Ecotechnologies for Wastewater Treatment. Held in Stockholm, the event brings together researchers, engineers, and professionals from across the water sector to discuss the latest technologies and ideas for monitoring, treatment and reuse.

As part of the scientific programme, BPC will present a poster on advancing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) analysis using our instrument Gas Endeavour® III. The work focuses on streamlining BOD testing by replacing traditional, dilution-heavy methods with a volumetric respirometry approach that is automated, accurate and scalable.

From complex to continuous

BOD analysis remains one of the most widely used tools for assessing organic pollution in wastewater. But the standard methods are often labour-intensive and limited by narrow measuring ranges. This is especially true when working with high-strength samples that require multiple dilutions and adjustments to fit within the detection window.

Gas Endeavour® III offers a different approach. By continuously measuring oxygen uptake in sealed reactors, it provides a more complete picture of microbial activity — without the need for dilution or extensive manual handling. The system also enables high-throughput testing of up to 18 samples simultaneously, making it suitable for both routine operations and advanced research.

Ahead of ECOSTP 2025, we’ve published a digital preview of our poster and a short video presentation by Mihaela Nistor, PhD. The poster outlines the method, experimental results, and how the system compares to reference BOD values from ISO and OECD standards.

Representing BPC at the conference will be Mihaela Nistor, PhD, and CEO Jing Liu. They will be available during the event for questions and conversations about the research, the instrument, and how BOD analysis fits into broader water quality strategies.
