Anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high-solids anaerobic digestion
ASTM D5511-18 is designed to yield a percentage of conversion of carbon in the sample to carbon in the gaseous form under conditions found in high-solids anaerobic digesters. The method may also resemble some conditions in biologically active landfills where the as generated is recovered and biogas production is actively promoted by inoculation, moisture control and temperature control. The test materials are exposed to a methanogenic inoculum derived from anaerobic digesters operating only on pretreated household waste. The anaerobic decomposition takes place under high-solids (more than 30 % total solids) and static non-mixed conditions.
BPC Blue allows for continuous and on-line monitoring of released biogas (CH4 and CO2) under the test condition. The instrument offers standardised measurement procedures, data interpretations and reports. It is a modular system with great flexibility on different system configurations for various types anaerobic and aerobic biodegradability assays in different test environments.
